The world has been changed indefinitely, especially in aviation, where long haul flights
and travel is impacted forever. As the dust settles we see ourselves living in a new era of short to mid range travel demands, both national, but even more so locally.
How do we change the future of air mobility? You might be picturing flying cars in an art-nouveau style straight out of the cinema. Although such a futuristic future might not be that distant – Elire MG are facilitating a solution for the present.
The Electric aircrafts are here now. And they will pave the way for other urban mobility solutions. In particular eSTOL –being electric short take off and landing vehicles.
This is an alternative that is simpler, has lower development costs, lower risks and can operate at under half the cost of an eVTOL (electric vertical take off/landing) vehicle.
Electric and eSTOL aircraft provide a sustainable, green solution for applications such as air taxis, cargo, tourism, pilot training, and much more.
We know that greenhouse gas emissions from many sources, not only air travel, must be reduced significantly over the coming decades. Many of the responses to these challenges, such as future air mobility solutions, are complex and have many barriers to overcome if they are to reach consumers.
Price and convenience for the consumer are obviously among the factors that need to be solved.
We are contributing to solving these challenges because a sustainable, efficient, and green solution is needed. And it is needed now.
Elire MG is an enabler of this innovation, connecting and fostering collaboration with partners across the globe.
We are playing our role in the future of air mobility. Elire MG’s Managing Director of Future Mobility (a former MD at Airbus) , Mickael Melaye is leading an exciting project planned for 2021 for further testing of electric aircraft in Norway.
“It is evident that at this point in time, the eSTOL vehicle is a far more realistic alternative compared to the eVTOL, especially from a cost and development perspective. In addition, when considering the expected demands on this new way to travel, the eSTOL will be on a faster route-to-market.” says Melaye.
